Life In Extra

Off The Beaten Path: Our Bike Adventure Begins!

Leonardo Paolino,

Tuesday was a long day as well. After a great breakfast, we left Shahreza on our bikes and kicked off on our bike adventure!

We pedaled for almost 50kms entirely on asphalt. An hour after we arrived, it began to rain but luckily we reached a place that acted as our temporary shelter - a concrete and brick cabin of Yaghoob's friend who set up the place and prepared a wonderful lunch. We rested after lunch and as the sun came out, we decided to make another go at the mountain bike for another 2-3 hours, but this time on a dirt road.

The mountain bike tour was beautiful. We went through the mountains and slowly went up eventually reaching 2800 metres high. As we passed through the landscape, we passed a few residents who gathered in the open to eat together to celebrate Mabaas, an Islamic holiday that falls on different dates every year depending on the lunar calendar.

We passed through unspoiled nature and went back to our temporary shelter in time for dinner. We stayed late through the evening to chat with a few people with us. Yaghoob's sister was even there to give us a hand with the meals.

On that night, we slept alone surrounded by mountains in the middle of a valley with only a clear, starry sky as our roof.  It was an indescribable experience. The others preferred to sleep in the cabin since it was a bit cold. Since we were around 2400 metres above sea level, it would have reached around 5-6 degrees at night.

I, on the other hand, am happy enough to sleep outdoors in the tent surrounded by nature under the stars. Definitely an unforgettable experience.
