Important Digital Marketing KPIs To Report To Your Boss

Hossein Moghaddam,

I remember when I was a young and ambitious MBA student that whenever we presented a business plan or a go market strategy for university projects we focused on gimmicks and tricks to improve the coolness of our idea. However one of our professors, who I dearly love, said and I quote:

We are all in the business of making money!

However you can't, at all phases of your business's stage, see only your bank account and determine whether you are on the right track or not. Some marketing strategies will in fact take time to show any returns whatsoever. That being said throughout my experience and learning from other people's experiences I figured the metrics should actually be classified in two groups: Intangible KPIs, which are those number that don't directly interpret to revenue generated, and Tangible KPIs that can be directly tied to a sales order. Let's see what they are:

I don't want to brag about my profession, but I would say in Marketing is where the magic happens for a brand! 5 Digital marketing tactics inspired by Game of Thrones

Hossein Moghaddam,

When I think of battle strategies I picture Tyrion Lannister defeating Stannis Baratheon's Army in the battle of Blackwater, with a smart tactic: driving the enemy ships towards the harbor and then blowing them up with wildfire. Well, Tyrion was a clever fellow and here there are 3 quick lessons every marketer can learn:

3 aspects of a well defined automated lead scoring system

Hossein Moghaddam,

Knowing who to address in your marketing communication is a must, but it doesn't mean what you get in the end would be what you exactly want! Allow me to simplify: You might create content focused on top level managers in growing companies related to legal issues during mergers and acquisitions, to nurture them so that you can close them as customers for your legal services offer. Law students might also like to know more about this subject so they might read and interact with your content, but they are not your target. Not only they can't afford it but also they don't own a business to worry about M&A.

Speaking in Digital Marketing terms, you need to have a system in place to evaluate if the visitors who convert to leads from this content are the right fit for your offering, so you can send your best closer after them! (Watch Suits if you haven't yet) Are you aware if your business has already an automated system in place?

Marketing Automation: What would Don Draper do in 2017?

Hossein Moghaddam,
Marketing has undergone a huge plastic surgery in the recent years. MBA graduates would know marketing as the knowledge of researching the market and segmenting the target, and pushing the offers towards them via design of marketing mix and advertising. This story take me back to 1960s Mad Men (don't get me wrong, the series is pretty recent but the story is an oldie)

Spending millions on cold calls and printed flyers? Consider Inbound Marketing over outbound

Hossein Moghaddam,

I remember sitting down with a clients who used to manage around 500,000 contacts on their CRM and would spend 9 million euros on printing brochures and flyers for promotional purposes. The same client had a few big contracts with call centers where they would call anyone and everyone reading the same script, hoping if they would make a purchase, at times even begging the person not to hang up or to reconsider on the service they currently use!

When I asked them what is the conversion rate from calls to prospect (meaning what percentage of receivers of the calls would actually turn into potential customers) they told me around 1 to 2 percent! Does this number really justify the investment?!

So I am going to take a step back and introduce two arguments and marketing approaches companies usually consider:
